With Johannes Robert Schürch. Alles sehen, the Aargauer Kunsthaus revived a largely forgotten Swiss artist. The exhibition presented Schürch (1895–1941) as an exceptional figure of early Swiss modernism and showcased key works and sketchbooks from his most productive years in the 1920s and early 1930s, many of them accessible to the public for the first time.
Schürch’s radical yet delicate works on paper were reflected in the color concept by Studio Bisig Rochelli, where dark tones met bright accents to create a poetic atmosphere. The lyrical contributions by Simone Lappert added a special highlight to the exhibition. Her poems emphasized the timeless relevance of Schürch’s works and encouraged reflection on the conditio humana in today’s context.
The exhibition was accompanied by the comprehensive publication Johannes Robert Schürch. Alles sehen, edited by Nicole Rampa and Simona Ciuccio, published by Scheidegger & Spiess, Zurich.
